I am an associate professor at Lander University, in Greenwood, SC. I hold an M.A. (2003) and Ph.D. (2006) from the University of Florida (2006), and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (2001).
My official specialty is American literature, especially literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, but I love to teach a wide range of English classes from single-author studies to general education topic-based courses and first-year composition. My favorite authors are Herman Melville, Willa Cather, and Cormac McCarthy, and for fun I like to search for good post-apocalyptic literature--most recently I have read the first two books of Justin Cronin's The Passage trilogy and Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake.
I am originally from the coastal town of Morehead City, NC (that's the town's waterfront in the banner image above), and I love being in, on, and near salt water with my wife and three children!
